Bike Rant.

As the warm weather strikes, so does the cyclist.

I don't know if it's just me, but there are soooo many people riding bikes this summer. Salt Lake's year and month of the bicycle has come in full swing, and I have to say I think it's pretty awesome. Mountain bike, crusier, road, bike share, I'm just glad to see that someone is out on their bike taking in the sun. Even if you are homeless, and that bicycle is basically your SUV. I feel you brother, I don't own a car and my bicycle is my main means of transport but you also probably sleep outside. fuck. that sucks. At least it's summer?

Anyway, everyone is out doing their bike thing and it's great. But I have also noticed that motorists are reacting rather negatively to the increase in cyclists. I've had a couple experiences, granted I may have accidentally cut off a few cars on South Temple (aka A FUCKING DEATH TRAP WHERE REDNECKS CHASE YOU IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC), but there have been many more incidents that were not caused by my (at times) poor judgement where I have had motorists in cages honking, passing very close, ignoring my hand signals to switch lanes, yelling, cutting me off as I'm trying to navigate my way home so I can sit on my computer in the dark and listen to music.

I just want everyone to get along, ya know? I know you're in a car, but I can't ride on the sidewalk. That's even more dangerous than me riding on the street. Pedestrians are not quite as bad as metal monsters, but dammit they do love to ignore that red hand. fuckers. When you hear the chirp and the little white walking person made of LEDs you can walk, I figured people would be conditioned to that by now. What are you in such a rush for?! Where the fuck do you have to be?! I don't particularly have to be anywhere myself, but really, you're stopping for a red?! And giving way to pedestrians?! And driving on the same road where I'm riding?! You are such a dick.

There are so many wonderful things happening this month for bicycles.

I was going to find all these links, but these dudes were on top of it.
